In Memory of Sr. Dianna Ortiz
In the early years of my work at Amnesty International, I attended the June 26 day in support of survivors of torture at the Center for Victims of Torture. Dianna offered such great inspiration, to me and to the others there. TASSC was still in the conceptual stages, but she voiced the need for survivors to lead in their own recovery, for torture to be treated and also to be prevented. Dianna was an early influencer on my dissertation, emphasizing how important it was to examine the collective experiences of survivors, avoiding the distinctions of country or national origin that have been used to separate people. One of my greatest honors has been to work with her and other survivors through TASSC. I will miss Dianna’s huge presence of spirit and soul.
